How to Source Wholesale Toys
The toy industry is booming more than it ever has. To get into the
toy niche you need to use similar methods you would use if you were to get into the fashion clothing or
electronics industries, which we discussed a few newsletters back.
If you need a quick refresher, here are a few important pointers:
The first thing that you have to ask yourself is about your target market and what types of toys that you wish
to sell on eBay.
Many of the wholesale toy websites will list all the toy categories on the left side of the website as you go
onto them and browse.
When you know your target market, and the toys that you want to sell online, then you will know where you have to go.
As much as I disagree with just going onto a search engine and searching for "wholesale toys" this might be the
case if you do not go to a trade show.
Don't get me wrong, I strongly suggest that you go to trade shows so that
you can meet businesses in person. They are great for doing business with new suppliers, as well as having an
actual person answer any of the questions that you may have.
But if you do not go to a trade show, look for websites that offer toy wholesalers that appear to be legit.
There are few things to look out for when sourcing wholesale
products in toys. When looking online for companies that you want to work with, look for the ones that are
There are websites that have done this work for you already. They put legitimate companies in their directories,
just like services like SaleHoo.com does.
You also want to ask around and get any referrals from the
people that are doing what you want to do. There's no reason to go after companies that you or no
one else has ever heard anything about. That is where the risk comes in.
You do not want to lose your business because you made a quick decision to find a company to only find out that
the reason they were cheaper than the others, was because they were knock-offs and counterfeits.
There is also a safety factor here. Remember that huge case with Mattel a couple of years ago. The safety of
little pieces and children raised awareness and that puts extra pressure on you to make sure that you find the best
So don't take the unnecessary risks by not doing your homework. The biggest thing with toys and electronics is
that buyers want to see pictures.
A good wholesale company will provide the best pictures for you to ensure that the customer knows and
understands what they are getting.
That way there are no returns and disgruntled or unsatisfied customers. But just keep in mind that plenty of
good wholesalers out there do not offer product images for you to use.
This doesn't mean that they are not a good wholesaler, it just means you will need to take the time to do this
These wholesalers are also in it to win it. They want as many legitimate retailers to sell their products just
as much as you want a smooth operation.
The point is for everyone to get repeat business
online, and you can only do that by offering a top of the line service and product. And of course, that starts
with getting the right wholesaler.
